Secret Porsche Bike project completed

The top secret Porsche Bike project was revealed today. A friend asked me to change out the gears on his 1997 Bike FS to give him a higher top speed ... without letting his friend know. He wanted to out-race another member on our Porsche Bike team. So the 42 tooth front chainring was changed to 44 and the 12 tooth rear cassette changed to 11. These two silly boys like to race. Now he has a chance to keep up!

Could have been 14 miles … if I remembered to start Strava! Short ride before the F1 race.

BWI/BA x Porsche Bike X ... again

Another long ride on my favorite BWI to Annapolis rail trail. This morning in very warm and humid weather, I rode 45 miles on the 2004 Porsche Bike X. This time I stopped at the Severna Park Taphouse for a bier with 10 miles to go.

1996 Porsche Bike FS is ready for pick up

The 1996 Porsche Bike FS rebuilt for a friend is finished and ready for pick up. I rebuilt the front forks, added air to the rear strut, replaced the tires and tubes, replaced the pedals, and cleaned, polished and lubed. The bike is getting picked up in mid July. This is the sixth Porsche Bike I've refurbished.

1996 Bike FS refresh complete

Changed the tubes and tires today. Along with rebuilding the forks and swapping out the pedals, the 1996 Porsche Bike FS is ready for the road or trail. This is a friend’s bike and happens to be one of the first Votec-made Porsche bicycles introduced in the mid 1990s. The first 500 made for international sale had this black frame and red Sachs disc brakes. After these first 500, Porsche changed the color to graphite grey metallic and to Formula Italy brakes. Only a small amount of the black frame Bike FS made it to the U.S. and this is the only one I’ve seen.

W&OD 45 miles

Four members from our Porsche Bike team rode 45 miles on the paved Washington & Old Dominion rail trail this morning. We had two Bike FS, a Bike S and Bike X on the ride. The weather was almost perfect leaning a little warm and humid, but good for July! We stopped at Caboose Brewery for a late breakfast snack and a Vienna Lager, which seemed appropriate since the brewery is in Vienna, Virginia. This was my third W&OD ride … I really like this trail.

Bike Spyder #23 found

Weissach Bike Spyder #23 popped up on a German auction site this week. This is either a small or medium frame and likely built in 1992. With only 50 made, these are an extremely rare part of Porsche Bike history.

1996 Bike FS shock refurbish

Rebuilt the forks on a 1996 Porsche Bike FS for a friend this morning. This is the 1996 shock without the spring, just a lot of elastomers. The style of this fork is always more challenging to reassemble. I definitely prefer the shock with the spring/elastomers. Took it out for a test ride and it felt very good. Next I’ll change out the tires and tubes.
