Great Allegheny Passage pre-planning, part two

After some review (drinking bier and web surfing) I'm thinking the GAP plan of attack is to drive the four hours to Pittsburgh, PA on a Thursday and stay overnight in downtown Pittsburgh. Then Friday ride 75 miles on the 2004 Porsche Bike X toward home on the GAP to Ohiopyle and stay the night and refuel. Saturday ride another 75 miles to Cumberland, MD to complete the GAP and drive two hours home in the 2006 Porsche Cayenne S support vehicle. Sunday will be celebrating and cleaning the bike.

I found riding the C&O last fall ideal, from a weather and timing standpoint. Cool temperatures and lower chance of rain makes me think that would be a good strategy again this year. Just not sure I'm willing to wait that long! I'll see how the 2021 training goes after a winter of gaining weight.

As for the ride direction, I like getting the longer drive out of the way first and not after 150 miles of pedaling. And the Pittsburgh to Cumberland direction looks more fun with a gradual uphill followed by a long downhill and the opportunity to finish strong.

As soon as temps climb back into the high 50s, I'll get outside for training. Until then, inside stationary bike as I'm doing right now.

2021 Great Allegheny Passage ride

Today I started the first pre-planning for my 2021 Great Allegheny Passage multi-day bike ride. My very first step is always to get the map up on the wall and place 'map pins' where I'm planning to start, stop and stay overnight. The GAP map is next to the C&O map from my three-day, 190-mile 2020 fall ride. In 2021, I'm hoping to ride the 150-mile GAP ride across two days, splitting the distance in half, staying overnight in Ohiopyle, PA. I'm intending to ride the 2004 Porsche Bike X, converted from a road bike back to a touring bike. The conversion was finished a couple months ago now. As soon as the weather begins to improve, I'll start training again.

2021 Spring Sim Racing

Looking forward to the Spring 2021 PCA Sim Racing season, I'm thinking about running a livery that represents my 986 Boxster ... all black with chrome rims.

Boxster 986 strut replacement completed

Completed the strut and bump stop replacement on the 2001 Porsche Boxster today. I took my time and enjoyed the work, but it was still difficult. I learned a lot for sure. First test drive felt amazing. Can’t wait until after a little settling and an alignment. Spring time driving will be awesome.

986 strut 2 of 4 completed

Finished up the second strut replacement on the 2001 Boxster this morning. Taking my time and enjoying the experience. This one was driver's side rear. Had to take off the axel nut and brake. I'm learning a lot as I go. I'll start the passenger side front later this week.

Sebring Sunrise

Got in some weekend practice for next Wednesday's Sunrise at Sebring PCA Sim TeamRacing endurance event. Set my new fastest lap this morning after installing another new strut in the Boxster.
