Follow my continuing passion to explore new adventures on Porsche bicycles. I have conquered a Century ride with a Porsche mountain bike, the Death Ride on a Porsche touring bike, the 184.5-mile Chesapeake & Ohio Canal Towpath in 2020, the 370-mile combined C&O/GAP trail in 2021 and the 237-mile Florida Coast to Coast ride in 2022. And just completed the Maryland and California Coast & Coast Porsche road bike adventure!

Porsche Bike X Donner Lake ride
Gearing up for the Death Ride, I'm now starting to get the miles in. Today I did a medium distance ride from Glenshire, around Truckee and out to Donner Lake and back. The ride ended up 29.5 miles. I felt strong, even with a strong headwind on the way back, and the 2004 Porsche Bike X performed marvelously. Donner Lake looked great and is totally full from the massive winter run off so far. So, a great ride today!
Tomorrow I'm hoping to ride 50 miles, Truckee to Lake Tahoe and back.

Porsche day, part 4
Today was a great Porsche day for sure. But even though I had a great time hanging out with Porsche club friends at breakfast, bought three new scale Porsche cars and attended the Panamera launch party, Porsche race cars didn't fair well in the two races I watched today. The 911 RSRs didn't podium at either the WEC Spa or IMSA COTA races today. And the best placed 919 was 3rd at Spa. Oh well, you win some and you lose some. We'll get 'em next time!
Porsche day, part 3
After the morning PCA-SNR breakfast and Porsche 1:64 scale car shopping, I attended the launch party of the brand new Porsche Panamera at Porsche of Reno. As usual, all of Reno's most enthusiastic Porsche enthusiasts showed up for the great food, fun friendship and the unveiling of the latest Porsche to join the automobile manufacturer's line. And as usual, I was the first to get behind the steering wheel. The new top of the line Panamera has twin turbos and a hybrid power unit reaching 680 horsepower. It's crazy fast! The unveiling event was a blast. Porsche of Reno puts on a great party.
Porsche day, part 2
After the PCA-SNR Porsche club breakfast, I stopped by to see my friend Arthur at Flashback Toys and Collectibles in Reno. Arthur sells Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars. Out of the thousands of scale cars he sells, there's always a couple Porsches I don't have. And I have a lot. Today he again had a pile for me to take a look at. I bought three more to add to my extensive collection.
Porsche day, part 1
What a day filled with Porsche activity! Today started with the Porsche Club of America, Sierra Nevada Region's monthly club member breakfast. We all drive our cars, talk about Porsche and eat breakfast. I drove the 2006 Porsche Cayenne S from Truckee to the Reno breakfast event. Met old friends and made a few new ones. Good times!

Porsche Bike X hill repeats
With the improving weather, I'm riding outside more. I felt good after yesterday's 26-miler so I just finished a 10-mile hill repeat ride today. Half mile up my steep road and coasting back down. 10 times. Good workout for my legs and good training for the Death Ride. It's supposed to rain again tomorrow and Sunday. So I wanted to get some miles in quick.

Porsche Bike X recovery ride
After the 71-mile Wildflower ride Sunday, I took a rest day Monday, then an easy 60-minute stationary bike spin followed by another rest day Wednesday. Today I was back on the 2004 Porsche Bike X for a short and medium intensity bike ride out to Donner Lake and back. I just wanted to test the legs and bike after the brutal ride Sunday.
Everything worked well. My legs felt strong and the bike rode well. I did notice the bike needed a washing, so when I finished the 26 miler, I cleaned the Bike X up good.

Another Wildflower photo
This photo was taken at 1:37pm by the official event photographer. One of my riding buddies was behind me. This is a good view of the 2004 Porsche Bike X. What a great event!

Wildflower photo
Here's a photo taken by one of my cycling friends before the start of the Wildflower bike ride last Sunday. This was the only photo from the event showing both the 2004 Porsche Bike X and the custom Niello Porsche bike jersey together.

Pleasure and pain: Porsche Bike X at the Wildflower Century
The Wildflower Century bicycle ride yesterday was my first big organized road ride of 2017 and first big ride on the recently rebuilt 2004 Porsche Bike X.
This was my second Wildflower event in Chico, California. But this year my riding friends and I opted to sign up for the full Century ride. Last year we rode the 65 mile route that included the infamously hilly Honey Run section. Yesterday riding the full Century, we climbed the Honey Run portion and also the equally difficult climb up to Table Mountain. The temperatures climbed into the 80's for the Table Top portion.
On the decent, my friends elected to shortcut part of the final miles so we only rode 71 miles instead of the full 100. Since I knew this was coming, I gave it everything I had on all of the flat stretches during the last 20 miles. My legs are sore today, but not injured. So I'm feeling pretty good about the effort - considering this winter was tough to do much distance training.
The 2004 Porsche Bike X performed marvelously. No mechanical issues, gears shifted well, brakes kept me under control on the high speed downhill sections and the smooth rolling was great on the flats. The bike performed to my highest hopes and aspirations.
The Wildflower ride was equally beautiful and difficult. The flowers were in bloom and the grass was green. The views were incredible and seeing the 4,000 riders was energizing. I loved the event.
The heat, hills and headwind made it challenging. I don't do anything halfway, so riding hard made the day painful. I burned over 3,500 calories in 5 and a half hours. Last year I rode the 1998 Porsche Bike S mountain bike. Riding on a true road bike this year was so much easier. But instead of enjoying that, I just went faster.
Will I do the Wildflower next year? I sure want to!
