Pretty good weekend for Porsche 911 GT3 R race cars.

A win at Nürburgring and fourth place at Circuit of the Americas yesterday. And third at Circuit of the Americas in the World Challenge second race today.

I watched both COTA World Challenge races streaming on my computer.

German cooking on a cold day

There is nothing better than warm German food on a cold day.

So, I decided to slow grill Bratwurst and make some hand-made Spätzle. Stone ground mustard added to the Bratwurst was a must.

It was fantastic! The flavors of the brats, mustard and Spätzle together was mouthwatering. With a German bier to compliment of course.

911 RSR wins Sebring!

I watched most of the 12 hour endurance race at Sebring International Raceway on my computer streaming today. The hotly contested GTLM class was won by the mid engine Porsche 911 RSR. It was a great race! Nick Tandy provided the final and critical stint.

Porsche has made history since 1960 as the most successful manufacturer racing at Sebring with 18 outright victories and now 71 class wins. Today’s win was against some potent machinery from Ferrari, Ford, Chevrolet and BMW.

On Sebring’s rough and bumpy road course you have to be good and lucky. Today was Porsche’s day. 

First and second-gen Cayenne

Driving around Truckee today, I parked next to another Porsche Cayenne. My Carmona Red 2006 Cayenne is a first-generation 955-9PA and silver Cayenne is a second-generation 958-92A.

This photo clearly shows the differences in the front end of the two earliest Cayenne generations. I'm still partial to the first-gen version. I like the front headlights, air intake and smooth hood. Call me old-fashioned, but I'll keep my 2006 ... thank you very much.

Cloudy day jog

I haven't been running much lately. The winter weather has kept me home bound and on the stationary bike. But today the temperature reached over 50 degrees.

So I laced up the Porsche Design Endurance Boost running shoes and went down to the Truckee River Legacy Trail for a five mile jog. I am definitely not running well or fast after a few months of bad weather. But it felt good to get out and run again.

I'm behind my plan to increase my speed and distance. I'll need to step up my game as the spring weather approaches.

Two for two for the 2018 911 GT3 R!

Porsche 911 GT3 R also won round two of the Pirelli World Challenge at St. Petersburg. Two for two. That's a really great start to the season!

New Porsche E-Bike about to be released?

During this week's concept announcement of the Mission E Cross Turismo, Porsche teased in both the new Mission E vehicle's news release and video a new Porsche bicycle. In both it just references an "E-Bike". The video clearing shows a new bike currently not produced for Porsche. The thick silver frame can easily hide an electric motor. The wheel color clearly matches the rims on the Mission E Cross Turismo concept car.

What does this mean? I suspect we'll see a new Porsche electric assist bicycle release in 2019 to coincide with the Mission E release. Maybe even a "package deal" with the first year Mission E to drum up excitement.

The all-Porsche website, Flatsix.com had a nice story about the tease of this new e-bike.

This isn't the first electric assist bike Porsche has produced. Scouring the web I found what looks to be a possible prototype to this new silver and blue e-bike. The website Bicycle Network Australia covered a Berlin based bicycle company focusing on electric bikes. The August 21, 2015 story clearly shows a Porsche Intelligent Performance themed Bike S outfitted with a thicker frame to house an electric motor - not unlike this new e-bike shown in the Mission E video.

Before that there was the 2010 Porsche electric assist prototype bike that didn't make it to the market either. This was a one-off test basically strapping a battery and electric motor to a mountain bike frame. This wasn't even one of the current Porsche bike frames at the time. If I recall correctly, this e-bike was intended to help publicize the Cayenne Diesel Hybrid at the time. Since this bike was never produced, this new Mission E e-bike will likely be the first e-bike Porsche will sell. I look forward to getting a chance to ride it!

Porsche day

Today while driving around I ran into a first-gen Porsche 928! It was a strange but awesome sight in the snow covered Truckee roads. And then this evening I drove to Reno to attend the monthly PCA Sierra Nevada Region board meeting at Bavarian World. Bavarian World is a cool German restaurant. This year I'm the SNR Vice President. We discussed the upcoming 2018 events and drank German beer!

More Cayenne snow fun

Snow daze!

The 2006 Cayenne S is the perfect winter vehicle. The high clearance, big tires, 4x4, Porsche traction control and giant V8 engine just powers through the snow. It's snowing a ton in Truckee this week and I needed to get around. Cars are spinning out all over the Tahoe area but me and my Cayenne can go anywhere!
