BWI to Annapolis 40 miler

After the 24 off road miles with the 1998 Porsche Bike S yesterday, today I rode the 2004 Bike X 40 miles around BWI airport and down to Annapolis and back on the paved path. I’m still building endurance after winter, but riding the last few days felt great. The new tire and tube held up. I’m always nervous after changing out tires. First  ride means a lot.

Patuxent Wildlife Refuge 24 miles

With spring weather improving, it is time to return to some of the mountain bike trails around my house. The Patuxent Wildlife Refuge is one of my favorites. Today I rode 24 miles on a mix of paved backroads and dirt forest service roads with the 1998 Bike S. Some road paving and trail maintenance improvements made the ride more enjoyable. I love the marshy bogs, small streams and the many lakes. I look forward to going back again soon.

Cayenne summer tires

Changed the 2006 Cayenne S back to the summer tires this morning. The Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires are on the last summer season.

New tire on the Bike X

I noticed a small shard of glass sticking out of the back tire on the 2004 Porsche Bike X this week. I think I picked that up while on the March Florida Coast to Coast ride. Pulling it out left a hole. Apparently the Continental Gatorskin tires held up. So, today I replaced the tire with another 700cx28 Continental Gatorskin. I am hoping to ride 40 miles with the Bike X Saturday.

Summit Point Sim Racing

Finished P17 at Summit Point last night. Not a great finish and only passed one car, but ran a clean 0x race and had a blast.

Afternoon Bike S ride

Short 12-mile neighborhood ride on the 1998 Bike S this afternoon. Another day of great weather. Today into the 80s. Noticed this red Cayenne for a photo opportunity.

Afternoon Bike S ride

Over 70° today! I just had to do some sort of little bike ride. So I took the 1998 Porsche Bike S out for a quick seven miles. I’m so glad spring is here!

Bike Spyder Titanium bottle cage

Titanium bottle cage arrived and now on the Bike Spyder #37 with an original Bike Spyder water bottle. The bike display at the PCA National office is nearly finished. Next will be to include a framed Porsche Bike Spyder prototype magazine story.

GT2 RS drive

Flew to Las Vegas for a weekend with my brothers and drove a Porsche 911 GT2 RS at the Speed Vegas track. The 700 horsepower, twin turbo, race inspired supercar is nicknamed “the widow-maker”. Driving seven laps flat out around the 1.3 mile, 11 turn racetrack in the Las Vegas desert was a dream come true.

Bike Spyder #61/200 discovered

Bike Spyder #61/200 has been discovered in Germany. At 7474 grams (16.47735 pounds) my sources said this is in perfect shape and the lightest Bike Spyder made. Interestingly, my sources also said only 50 were made ... this is #61! I am now aware of Bike Spyder #0, #1, #33, #37, #39 and #61. Apparently there is still more to the Bike Spyder story!

355-mile Erie Canal Trail fall 2022?

Early planning stages for another possible Porsche Bike team long distance adventure ride. This time I’m looking at the 355-mile Erie Canal Trail. Since fall seems to be the best time, weather wise and for proper training time, I think October makes sense. The ECT is part of the Empire State Trail system and includes canal towpath, rail trail and some paved paths. This ride has been on my radar for a little while. When I noticed New York offered a free large-format poster, I ordered one and it’s now on the wall for planning and inspirational purposes.

I’m thinking this would be another good ride for the 2004 Porsche Bike X in “touring mode” like I used last year on the 370-mile C&O/GAP ride. I’ll need to revert the Bike X from “road bike” to “touring” after the W&OD and Mtn Vernon road rides. But that’s have the fun!
